Rimrock Rockfall Evaluation
A major rockfall occurred in the middle of the night while the resident was sleeping in the rear of the house, trapping the resident. Although, we have no physical office in Montana, Ninyo & Moore has the capabilities and trained staff at the ready to travel to outside locations for CAT evaluations.
Project Highlights:
- Geotechnical Engineering
- Forensic Evaluation
- Residence Severely Damaged by Major Rockfall
Ninyo & Moore provided geotechnical services during the evaluation of the cause of a rockfall that severely damaged a residence in Billings, Montana. The residence was damaged by a rockfall event that occurred around 1:30 a.m. while the resident was asleep in the rear of the house. The source of the rockfall was the prominent sandstone cliff face, known as Rimrocks, on the slope above the property to the north. The Rimrocks extend for several miles in an east to west direction and form the main land feature in northern Billings. A slope covered with boulders descends approximately 130 feet from the base of the cliff face to the street that fronts the damaged residence. Our geotechnical report presented our findings and conclusions regarding the cause of the rockfall.
