Engineering Geology: Feasibility Studies
Engineering geology plays an important role in feasibility studies for planning phases of land development, building construction, transportation projects, environmental mitigation, and other land use studies. Engineering geology feasibility studies are often preliminary evaluations involving research and review of published geologic maps, fault and seismic hazard data, and field geologic mapping. Subsurface exploration may also be involved in some feasibility studies
Feasibility studies may provide early assessment of potential geologic conditions that may have significant impacts to a project including:
- Earthquake fault zone hazards
- Seismic hazard zones
- Landslides, geologic structure, and slope stability
- Earthwork and grading constraints
- Groundwater
- Site response spectra analysis
- Seismic design coefficients
- Dam evaluations
